The Great Hunt (Chapters 48-50)

These chapters took so long to read. That is why it is so late in getting published. At least this book ends clearer than the first book. Continued in-attempts to make sure spelling is correct. Chapters and summary below the fold.

Ch48 First Claiming
Bergita shoots a ship and it starts on fire. Min drags Rand in to a house and warms him up with her body. Rand has a bad wound that is cold to the touch. Bella is safe. Igwane shows up and Min tells her off. Lanfear shows up and asserts her ownership of Luz Therimin. Byar blames everything on darkfriends.

Ch49 What Was Meant To Be
Rand awakens. His wound won't heal naturally. Rand still hates Moraine and wants to get away from her and any other Isadye. Moraine did not send Verin. Padan Feign's history is given a bit more. He is more than a darkfriend. Mordeth has retainted him in to something else. Mordeth fought the dark one. He is an independent being. Rand must now come to grips with the fact that he is the Dragon Reborn. 3 of the 7 seals on the dark ones prison are now broken. Uno and crew pledge themselves to the Dragon. Masima seems a little unstable.

Ch50 After
What was the point of this chapter?

Good thing we find out that Bella is safe. Does the horse become magical at some point? I assume not. Best line: "Speak for yourself. You tossed him aside for the white tower, what should you care if I pick him up?" It's the slap in the face to Igwayne that I so wish I could do. Just shut up Igwaine. Everything is darkfriends. Stupid white cloak paladin. Never drink the kool-aid you are passing around to the rest of the initiates. Always assume there is something more to the story.

So who sent Verin, because I can't remember. Is it even important? Where does Mordeth's power come from if he is not connected to the dark one? And is it even important? It seems like it should be considering what has become of Padan. It also make sense to me why he is so drawn to that dagger. Either way, it is pretty interesting what he becomes because of both creatures. I assume he will be fleshed out more and we get to inevitably find out what his motivations are. At least, that is what I would like to happen. If only 3 of the 7 seals have been broken then how can the Dark One get out? The Creator made the prison?

Seriously, what is the point of this chapter?

I also hope that we get more information on Mordeth and his role in things. It seems clear that Jordan had something in mind at this point in the series.

The Creator made the prison, but Lews Therin and the Hundred Companions made the seals to patch the hole...I'm afraid this might spoil something later on. We are going to continue getting information on this.

Egwene definitely got what she deserved here. She's very much been willing to toss Rand aside so that she could become an Aes Sedai. The White Tower is very important to her.

Lanfear plays a very slight role in this book. It's weird how she keeps popping up without really doing anything here.

That disappoints me that you don't have a better answer for me on Mordeth. It means that he probably won't get fleshed out.

What about my Verin question?

The "Verin question" does not have an answer; the question of whether Moiraine sent her is supposed to make you wonder whether Verin is a darkfriend - so in that sense, it's pretty important.
