Don't worry, Max! I'm coming!
Wednesday, August 2. 2006Maxwell Alone
Max woke and smacked his lips. He wasn't sure how long he'd been alone in this cavern, but this was the third time he'd had to lay down and get some sleep because the exhaustion was threatening to overwhelm him. He stood up and looked around the cavern where he'd spent the past few...well, may as well call them "days" and "nights", he supposed.
The room remained dimly lit by the faint glow of some phosphorous moss, with small bright points of a strange, glowing crystal stabbing into the darkness. The cavern's roof and far side remained unseen, although some simple tests with echo the day before had led Max to conclude the chamber was approximately thirty feet high and some ninety feet in diameter.
"Hello?" he whispered quietly, not really expecting an answer. "Kit, can you hear me?" Only the faint roar of pure silence came back. Well, he thought. Waiting to be found is one thing, but this is getting ridiculous. Time to have a look around. As he stood, Max rubbed again at the sore spot on the back of his neck. It had started stinging after his second "night" away from the others, and had only gotten worse since. He half-suspected something had bitten him there, but as his fingers brushed the ridges of the tattoo he'd never been able to explain, a cold fear filled his belly. It was the tattoo that burned. Oh, Kit...where ARE you? With a sense of impending doom, Max began his efforts to explore the cavern. Trackbacks

Poor Max. You know how when you're five and little and you go to the grocery store with your mom and she says 'If you get lost, stay right where you are and I'll come back and find you'? Max only had to learn his lesson once.

Parents only say that so they can get a head start out of the store :)
